Job Description

  • Teach own Primary/Secondary lessons (from 5 - 10 hours per week). Teaching hours, including cover, can be up to 50 hours per calendar month;
  • Assist teachers in their region to handle issues that arise such as teaching, school relationships, facilities, and life in Hanoi
  • Organize twice-monthly meetings with fellow RHTs to establish a collaborative working relationship, discuss issues and brainstorm;
  • Co-plan and deliver sharing sessions and workshops that help teachers develop specific competencies to improve their teaching
  • Carry out observations, as required during the academic year and during each of the 2 observation cycles with written and verbal feedback;
  • Assist ACs and AM in identifying teachers who are underperforming, and in consultation with ACs or AM support them through a Teaching Development Plan in preparation for follow-up observations by AC or AM;
  • Communicate frequently with every teacher in own region, face to face or by phone call; visit each school in their region at least once per term;
  • Complete development work projects as assigned by AM or AC.

Qualifications

  • CELTA, CertTesol or a similar TEFL certificate with assessed observations (essential) Online certifications not accepted.
  • Minimum 2 years of in-classroom EFL related experience within a public school environment (essential)
  • Extensive teaching experience with YL and/or Teens (essential)
  • Bachelor’s degree in any subject, preferably in English/Education (essential)
  • A clean home country Police Clearance Check (essential)
  • Young learner extension certificate such at CELTYL, Trinity TYLEC or IH YL and Teens cert (desirable)
  • Leadership and management experience (desirable)
  • High professional standards - accountable, detail orientated, etc

Salary and Benefits

  • Competitive salary offered is based on experience, qualifications, and location assigned. Monthly salaries can range around 50-53 Million VND.

Job Description

  • Manage test creation, curriculum development work, and other projects as necessary; develop placement tests, pacing guides, extra curriculum, etc as necessary
  • Assist the Academic Manager and Teacher Welfare and Recruitment team with hiring teachers (recruiting and interviewing) and disciplining teachers (as necessary)
  • Handle issues and support Regional Head Teachers within a designated region of the program
  • Accurately identify teachers who are underperforming, and support them through a Teaching
  • Development Plan in preparation for successful observation by AC or AM; observe teachers as necessary, including the outcome of Teaching Development Plans
  • Co-plan and deliver sharing sessions and workshops that help teachers develop specific competencies to improve their teaching (one a day during induction week, plus roughly 2 per month during the school year)
  • Design and implement teacher recognition programs, and coordinate social events
  • Lead school outreach events (eg, school assemblies, competitions, parent workshops)
  • Provide cover as necessary
  • Teach own classes (at AM’s discretion) (max 12h per month)

Qualifications

  • CELTA or CertTesol (essential)

Responsibilities

The Academic Manager reports to the Head of Schools Link Department. The Academic Manager provides overall leadership for the Schools Link teaching team. The Academic Manager works with the Head of Department to develop programs that meet schools Link requirements.

Tasks and Functions

  • Provide teaching team with academic management and support
  • Design placement tests/ progress tests/ and final tests for schools (primary, secondary and high schools)
  • Develop the program in primary, secondary and high schools for both students and teachers so as it is very prescriptive and effective.
  • Provide teaching team with academic management and support
  • Develop, managing the development of the programs in primary, secondary and high schools and project that schools link might involve and diversify to for both students and teachers. This includes:
    • o selecting appropriate course books and implementing curricula
    • o developing daily and weekly lesson guides(pacing guides) for teachers to follow;
    • o developing grammar content to help students with state exams (with support from VNC team);
    • o developing supplementary materials of high interest to learners;
    • o developing an ongoing improvement process with regular course review and modification to better fit changing requirements from schools and Department of Education and Training. (DOET)
    • o Work with academic team to develop extra curriculum for students and schools in Schools Link system.
  • Provide leadership in induction, training, mentoring, observing, managing, supporting, and organizing a growing team of Native English teachers and Vietnamese Teacher assistants Teachers. Develop a reliable system to monitor the quality of the teaching team and the learning programs.
  • Coordinate with teacher recruiters to recruit teachers for the projects.
  • Provide on-going teacher development for the team.
  • Develop and conduct teacher workshops at schools to help them increase the quality of their schools’ English teaching team. Facilitate, develop and implement training for teachers of district department.
  • Work closely with schedulers of the project and at schools to make sure teachers are used most effectively in line with their skills and experience.
  • Be involved in relationship building between Language Link, schools, government, and other related parties with coordination and support from Business Development head if required
  • Managing the assessment and reporting procedures very clearly and in a timely fashion, with ongoing and formal tests, and reporting on student progress to schools and parents.
  • Be involved in marketing, organizing and supervising activities promoting the Schools Link project
  • Work closely with Operation team dealing with customers' complain (students, parents, schools);
  • Work closely with Operation team dealing with regular and irregular inspection from Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) and the Department of Education and Training (DOET).
  • Suggest an Academic Management Team/structure that meets the changing needs of the SL program while being cost effective.
  • Assist in developing/preparing successor(s) for the AM position.

Qualifications and Experience

An advanced degree, preferably in Education. A DELTAor equivalent certification and at least 5 years experience in academic management.

Contact Hours

The AM is contracted to work a 40-hour week on-site, normally over a 5-day week. Presence at the school will be reduced proportionally on weeks containing Annual Leave, Sick Leave or public holidays. Contact hours are set at a maximum, on average, of 20 hours per month and teacher observations and placement testing are included in the time allocated for core duties.
